Inspection describes the regular checking of a product to make sure it meets specified criteria.

Fire extinguishers, for example, should be regularly inspected to make sure they remain safe and functional. Lifts and other machinery also need to undergo regular inspection to make sure they are safe for use.

Inspection, as an independent service, performed by the Bureau on behalf of customers is the not the same as inspection as conducted by regulatory bodies. Whereas the latter does this action as part of its enforcement mandate, the Bureau conducts inspection as a voluntary service based on competency.

In fact the TGSB Act 2010 stipulates on Section 5c that the Bureau shall “inspect on request by Government or private bodies, consignments of goods supplied, received or prepared for export to to deliver certificates of their conformity or otherwise to requirements of standards”.
