The National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) is the only Agricultural research institute in the country that is mandated by an act of parliament to provide technical solutions to the problems of producers and inform policy makers on options to increase agricultural production and productivity by conducting applied client oriented and adaptive research without detriment to the natural resource base and to the environment
NARI is responsible for providing technical, analytical, diagnostic and advisory services and up-to-date information to the agriculture sector.

As key stakeholder, the bureau inline with its standard development procedures and other International Standards Development Procedures of ISO/IEC Guide 21-1-1 and WTO code of practice for standards development, engaged and had a fruitful stakeholder engagement meeting with the technical staff of Nari to sound their opinion to solicit comments on the draft standards (Good Agricultural Practices for Rice and Storage and Warehouse Requirements for Rice)
The meeting was held at Nari’s main office in Brikama, on the 30th November, 2021.

Ongoing TGSB free calibration exercise at Banjulunding Health Centre


The Gambia Standards Bureau free calibration exercise ongoing at Banjulunding Health Centre. This is part of activities earmarked for the Celebration of World Metrology Day 2021. 
All scales are calibrated and affixed with TGSB calibration stickers. The next destinations for today are Yundum and Brufut Health Centres.

Nationwide calibration exercise for all Government hospitals and health centres


The Gambia Standards Bureau is currently embarking on a nationwide calibration exercise for all government hospitals and health centres. All weighing scales at government hospitals are calibrated and affixed with calibration stickers.

This activity is part of activities lined up for the celebration of World Metrology Day 2021.

TGSB Congratulates Mr Amadou G. Jallow as a 2021 Mandela Washington Fellow


Amadou G. Jallow is a 2021 Mandela Washington Fellow and has over 5 years of experience in the energy and standardization field. Currently, Amadou is a Senior Standards Officer at The Gambia Standards Bureau, focusing on developing national standards in the electro-technical field and sensitizing citizens on energy management using standards. He is a certified Lead Auditor in ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management Systems with a Diploma as a Basic Quality Professional and currently engaged in coaching local businesses to improve the quality of production through The Gambian Quality Association. He also engages in giving career advice and guidance through the New Nation platform to senior secondary school students.



Mrs. Isatou Cham of The Gambia Standards Bureau took participants through the Sanitary and Phytosanitary(SPS) Agreement  and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement. She presented on the importance of adhering to the Hazard Analysis Control Points (HACCP) and Good Hygienic Practices (GHP).

Mrs. Cham also made mentioned of ways to improve the standards of tradable products and services to meet the country's requirements under the #AfCFTA and to subscribe to the WTO e-Ping platform to get all the countries' updated trading requirements.
