TOURISM TECHNICAL COMMITTEE MEETING

The Bureau in its strive to develop key standards across all sectors of the economy, has yesterday 27th February 2025 convened a Tourism Technical Committee Meeting for its members to review and adopt two important standards.
Isatou Njie, a Standard Officer for tourism at the Gambia Standards Bureau, guided committee members through the following specifications:
1. ISO 20712-2008 WATER SAFETY SIGNS AND BEACH SAFETY FLAGS: for water, safety signs, used in workplace and public meaning areas parts 1, 2 & 3 and
2. ISO 21401:2018 – Tourism and related services Sustainability Management System for Accommodation Establishments — Requirements.
The Technical Committee Members will continue to scrutinize the draft documents independently before convening another technical committee meeting to adopt the two daft standards after further examining them.
Meanwhile, the Technical Committee has officially adopted three harmonized tourism standards, now ready for implementation.
1. Tourism and Related Services – Criteria for Grading Restaurants and Other Places of Entertainment – Part 1: Criteria for Grading Formal Food Service Establishments and Drinking Establishments
2. Tourism and Related Services – Criteria for Grading Restaurants and other Entertainment facilities
3. Sustainable Tourism- Performance Criteria Reference.
These Standards aim to enhance quality, safety and sustainability in the tourism industry, ensuring a more structured and globally recognised approach to service excellence in The Gambia.
